Eiffel and the Arc de Triomphe
Partly due to the spy Mata Hari, the Eiffel Tower escaped from being made into a 7,000 ton scrap-metal mountain, for our and the post-card industry`s delight. Arc de Triomphe.
One forgets, standing under this huge arch with its marvelous friezes and carvings, that its actually a mundane roundabout. Napoleon, when laying the founding stone in 1806, had not this in mind of course. It is truly a work of stupendous artistry.
