Alemunecar is not only dedicated to beach fun, in winter months the beaches are empty except for fishermen and one can almost see the ancient Phoenicians landing here, delighted to find a safe natural harbour. The Romans followed suit and in 755 Abderraman from Damascus decided to establish his empire here. Salt, silk and building flourished and the Christians joined in, evicting the Moors and put their stamp on San Miguel, the fortress on the hill top.
So much history pervades this town its impossible to be left untouched. But we delighted in roadside cafes and lush greenery sipping white wine, as a contrast to all the ancient happenings. One has to have a balance!
